What’s Your Why: Meet the Driggs Family

Heath Driggs, Knight-Swift Transportation West Region Facilities Manager, credits Children’s Hospital Colorado for his daughter’s life.

Twins Megan and Maddie were 9 months old when both got sick. When Maddie did not get better, Heath and his wife Michelle knew it was time to take her to the doctor. The team at Children’s Hospital Colorado was quick to diagnose Maddie. Within only three hours of being at the hospital, Maddie was diagnosed with pneumococcal sepsis, a bacterial infection of the blood.

During Maddie’s hospital stay, she and her family benefitted from many patient services funded by philanthropy dollars such as pet therapy, family housing options, and counseling resources.

Thanks to the outstanding care Maddie received at Children’s, she and her twin sister are now both healthy at 22-years old. Both Maddie and Megan credit the experience at Children’s for impacting their professional pursuits. Maddie owes her life and ability to pursue veterinary goals to Children’s. For Maggie, the family’s experience inspired her to become a pediatric home health nurse. She one day hopes to work at a children’s hospital.
